This image shows the farmworkers’ houses that stood in ’The Close’, Liverton Village.  Janet Wilson tells us: ”The boy standing in the gateway is Steven Barnes, his family lived in the house with the orange door.”The houses were demolished in 1984.

This lovely coloured postcard of Liverton Church came from Cooke’s Fancy Bazaar, Loftus, and was sent to Glasgow c. 1905.

Some of the carved pillars inside the church, anyone know when this church was built?

Well Joan – this is part of the Norman Arch (rodders).

Inside the church at Liverton as I said small but beautiful.  Now I am  wondering are they oil lamps hanging there?

Unless I miss my guess that is a triple Norman Arch – very similar to Lastingham (rodders).

The photo of Liverton Mill on this card was taken by T.C. Booth of Loftus.  The mill is in the valley of Liverton Beck, beside the lane from Liverton to Moorsholm.

This is a well-balanced photograph (probably a picture postcard) of Liverton Gardens, in the valley between Liverton and Moorsholm.  It was a market garden, you can see the glass-house middle-left of the image.

I can’t place these falls, can anyone tell us anything about them, please?

J Wilson answers our question with: ”Liverton falls are in what we used to call “Shaws Banks”. They are about 1/4 mile upstream from Liverton mill.Permission to visit them should be sought from the mill owners, as the falls are on their land.My brother and his friends used to climb the falls (during the summer when there was much less water cascading down them.)”
