Bus at Easington Bridge 1924

Bus at Easington Bridge 1924

Difficult to say which Company owned this bus, but if it was the Loftus Company, then they eventually went bust and their assets were obtained by Mr Keith Watson at Saltburn.  When his Bus enterprise failed they were all bought up by what went on to become The Saltburn Motor Services……sadly also swallowed up by the ill-fated Cleveland Transit Bus Company.

The moral – don’t own a bus company!

Easington Church

A fine view of this fine church.

Easington

Easington

We cannot dispute where this photograph was taken,  as once again it is Easington but no people are about this time, no estate on the right hand side.

Easington

Easington

It looks as though the population of Easington has come out to have their photo taken, the church tower clear in the background.

Obviously pre 1958 with a steam train, headed by A8 4-6-2T 67750, approaching Easington and the tunnel from Loftus. Can anybody date this picture?  Or is it Easington?

Sir Charles Mark Palmer’s Funeral, Easington Church

Sir Charles Mark Palmer's funeral

Sir Charles Mark Palmer's funeral

Sir Charles was seen as a great benefactor both here (he lived locally at Grinkle Hall, Grinkle Park – now a hotel) and at Jesmond, near Newcastle.  His funeral on March the 7th, 1907 filled the little church at Easington, which he had erected as a memorial for his wife.

The image was a half-tone (an image made up of numerous little dots) and the scan has caused patterning, unfortunately.  Has anyone got a better image?
