Hinderwell Bazaar

Hinderwell Bazaar

Mrs. M. Conn, Ray’s mother, is in this photograph taken at a church bazaar at Hinderwell.  Rev. Berriman, Rev. Ward, Mr. Blaylock, Mr. Codling, and Mr. Tom Husband are in the group.  Sheila Roots advises: ”This photo was taken in the Interegnum and the Rev. Ward came from Scarborough most weekends. The lady in front is Mrs. Perriman – wife of the Rev. Perriman from Whitby (not Berriman) The other gentleman is Thomas Harland & not Thomas Husband. Mr. Blaylock was a Church Warden – the other Churchwarden – William Harrison (my father is missing from the photo)

This is a priceless image – the number plate alone is worth a small fortune! The 97th car registered in the North Riding of Yorkshire, Middlesbrough District? This image shows Ada and Ann Halton about to go out for a spin. Talk about emancipation!

A further update: Bozi Mohacek of the Surrey Vintage and Vehicles Society tells us that it is a very rare car indeed -  a cca 1906 Gilburt Light Car, only made between 1904 and 1906 in West Kilburn, London. Middlesbrough Archives inform us that it was registered to an Ackroyd relative in Middlesbrough.

Thanks to Pauline Dolling for the update.
