This double image is a postcard and reverse of Ryan’s shop once a feature of the Market Place, Loftus. Brought to the Archive by Robert Graham’s granddaughter, the card included details of Robert , but unfortunately no others are mentioned. Can you help?
Ryan’s shop situated in the Market Place, managed it is believed by Mr Robert Graham who features in the image. Robert Graham lived in ”Tin City” at Boulby and arranged a petition (Robert’s letter presented the petition to The Minister of Health (in London) to prevent the demolition of the village by Loftus Urban District Council in 1935. This image could well date from this time.

A photo loaned to us by Eileen Hicks but we don’t know the girl on the horse do you? Now known to have been taken at the rear of the Golden Lion. Can anybody assist with names or a date?

I think these ladies are in the Congregational Church Loftus I don’t know all of the ladies names but some of them are:-
LtoR:- ??, ??, Mrs Benson, ??, ??, ??, Mrs Wood,(her husband could often be seen in and around Loftus sitting at his easel painting beautiful water colours) ??, ??, Mrs Jackson.
Can you name the remaining ladies.

From remember When in the Evening Gazette, the caption tells us all, were you one of those Scouts? The original newspaper article dates from March 1960.

Mrs Waton is standing on the right and it looks like the clothing that the scouts had been collecting. Do you recognise anyone in the photo loaned to us by Mrs Waton?

I know that the gentleman on the left is Frank Liddiard, but who are the other two men and where abouts on Skinningrove works are they?
Eric Johnson believes: ”this may be the location of the scale charging car, on no 5 furnace. the large round object on the left might be the weighing scale, for weighing the charges from the materials bunkers ore/ coke/ limestone, and then taken to the skips for hoisting to the furnace top.”

Yes bus drivers left Alan Chilton and right Frank Birtwhistle at the United garage East Loftus about 1962. The garage was later Arriva and is now closed.

Charlie the horse stands waiting patiently while Buzz Havelock, Gerry Readman and Mr Bibby sweep the rubbish from the streets of Loftus. Taken on Arlington Street the photo was loaned to us by Eric Johnson

Under those flat caps are some well groomed moustaches, two of the men under those caps and moustaches are on the left Jim Dadd and Charlie Dadd do you know any of the remaining men?

About 1950 as Joyce’s mother Mrs Hoare( president) cuts the cake, some of the ladies present are
back row:- ??, Mrs Money, Miss Evans, Mrs Tebble.
