There were very few care homes and the infirm and those unable to care for themselves lived at the hospital.

Temperance Societies sprang up in every industrial town, village and city during the Industrial Revolution as philanthropists and the Church tried to turn the working man away from the demon drink. The Band was one way of rewarding them for abstention.
Do you recognise anybody?

Here’s a scene from Child Street, Brotton, with the local children dressed up as king and courtiers for the 1935 Jubilee Celebrations.

The Five standing at the back are left to right:Leslie Allen, Florrie Chapman,Eric Sibly Marjory Kershaw Annie Petch

A good turn out for this children’s fancy dress. Jean Sayers is the little girl in the front with the kettle (Polly put the kettle on).
